Kendal Calling for a sweet smelling call of nature

11th July 2013

When 13000 people have to heed the call of nature during the Kendal Calling Festival on  26-28 July, they can be confident it won’t be overflowing toilets or shower blocks spoiling the sweet smell of their open air experience.

The organisers have brought in the local professionals, Serious Waste Management to make sure there are no problems during the contemporary music and art event. Serious has extensive experience of large outdoor events such as the annual Caravan Club Rally, with over 2,400 pitches over a long weekend.

Based in Penrith, Serious deals with waste at an impressive list of big events but they also deal with individuals, pubs, restaurants and businesses.

Managing Director of Serious, David Birkett said: “A big event like Kendal Calling is a challenge but we have the experience, the dedication and the determination  to make everything go smoothly. We’ll be there each day until the job is finished and we’ll ensure the waste water from the site goes for proper disposal.”

A range of the company’s purpose-built sewage tankers will  empty shower blocks, septic tanks and composting toilets before taking the waste for disposal and treatment.

The project requires careful co-ordination and planning and David Birkett is confident Serious’s attention to detail will prove invaluable.

“We, like the Festival organisers, believe passionately in taking care of the environment so we will take every precaution necessary to ensure a trouble free weekend.”

Andy Smith of Kendal Calling, added: “We’ve brought in Serious Waste Management because we know we can rely on them to deal professionally with an essential part of an outdoor festival. We have a small capacity so our visitors don’t feel they are herded round like cattle and they’ll be able to move around the 12 performance stages in a matter of minutes and never miss an artist. We provide fun in an old fashioned way and that includes efficiently organised waste disposal.”

We're delighted to say that Kendal Calling have been nominated in the 'best toilets' category of UK Festival Awards, you can vote here!
