Caravan Club Rally 2011
31st May 2011
The Serious team headed to the grounds of Sledmere House in East Yorkshire for the 84th National Caravan Club Rally.
Serious were responsible for the collection and disposal of the majority of the waste generated on site throughout the Bank Holiday weekend including sewage from all of the 2,500 caravans, trade waste from the stall holders, general rubbish and this year saw the introduction of cardboard and glass recycling. Next year we hope to be able to take even less to landfill and recycle the rubbish from the camping areas.
Serious had a base where the large tanker was stationed, alongside a bin lorry and recycling skip. This area was used to offload waste from smaller vehicles which had been patrolling the site collecting either the sewage and effluent with a tractor and bowser or rubbish and cardboard with a pickup and trailer from waste points across the site.
Highlights of the weekend included Joanna's skilful trailer manoeuvring, John's excitement at driving a John Deere tractor (whilst wearing his matching cap), mid morning bacon and sausage sandwiches in the pouring rain, and an unfortunate accident with a bin bag full of beans.
